1. Project Overview

Synova Med is an enterprise-level, UK-based online pharmacy and telehealth platform. Designed to handle sensitive treatments like weight management programs (Wegovy, Mounjaro), the platform required an end-to-end digital solution from brand identity to a highly secure, medically compliant web application. The objective was to create a frictionless experience for patients while providing prescribers with a bulletproof, automated clinical backend.

2. The Challenge

Building an online pharmacy in the UK means navigating incredibly strict regulatory frameworks set by the GPhC (General Pharmaceutical Council) and NHS guidelines. The platform needed to solve several complex challenges:

• Complex Subscription Logic: Weight loss injectables require "auto-titration" (gradually increasing doses over months). The system needed to automatically upgrade doses and billing, while allowing prescribers to manually intervene, pause, or lock doses for clinical safety.
• Strict Compliance & KYC: Mandated Age & Identity verification before medications could be dispensed.
• GP Communication: A legal requirement to notify a patient's primary care GP about prescribed treatments, requiring a system to send automated letters and track GP responses.
• Clinical Auditability: Every single action taken by a patient or admin needed to be meticulously logged to ensure CQC (Care Quality Commission) readiness.

3. The Solution & Execution

We architected the platform from the ground up, delivering a cohesive brand and a robust technical ecosystem.

Brand & UI/UX Design We started by establishing Synova Med’s visual identity, designing a modern logo and brand language that communicates medical authority, trust, and care. For the UI/UX, we focused on two distinct user journeys:

• The Patient Portal: A clean, reassuring, and highly intuitive dashboard where patients can complete health assessments, manage their active plans, request dose changes, and securely communicate with their clinical team.
• The Prescriber Dashboard: A dense, high-information interface designed to prevent clinical fatigue. We transformed complex data into scannable elements such as a vertical "Patient Journey" timeline, auto-calculated dynamic pricing, and color-coded compliance badges to instantly flag restrictions (POM, P_MED, OTC, GSL).

• Integrations: Mollie (Payments/Subscriptions), Sanity CMS (Content), Didit (ID Verification)

Key Technical Implementations:

• Custom Clinical Subscription Engine: We deeply integrated the Mollie API with Django to create a bespoke subscription engine. It handles standard rolling refills, but shines in its "Auto-Titration" capabilities. The engine automatically handles scheduled price changes, applies promotional logic (e.g., FIRSTPEN20), and processes flat-fee early cancellations.
• Dose Override Architecture: We built a sophisticated override system allowing clinical staff to temporarily pause a titration schedule (e.g., if a patient experiences nausea) or permanently convert them to a "Fixed Dose Maintenance" plan, dynamically adjusting the recurring billing via Mollie in real-time.
• Automated GP Triage System: We utilized AWS S3 and AWS SES to generate secure PDF notification letters sent directly to GPs. We also built an inbound webhook parser that catches GP email replies, strips the relevant text, and routes it directly into an internal "Triage Inbox" tied to the patient's order.
• Enterprise Audit Logging: We implemented an Apple/Google-tier TeamActivityLog system. Every dose change, approval, refund, or internal note captures the exact timestamp, the actor's identity, and the clinical justification, ensuring total transparency for regulatory audits.

4. The Results

The launch of Synova Med marks the deployment of a truly next-generation digital pharmacy.

• Regulatory Peace of Mind: By automating ID verification requests, strict POM tagging, and mandatory clinical review steps, the platform inherently enforces GPhC compliance, preventing human error.
• Operational Efficiency: What used to take hours of manual administrative work updating subscription pricing, generating GP letters, and tracking patient histories is now entirely automated. Prescribers can review a patient's health profile, check their identity status, and approve a complex titration plan in just a few clicks.
• Scalable Foundation: With a decoupled Next.js frontend and a highly specialized Django backend, Synova Med is built to handle massive scale, allowing the business to expand its catalog and clinical services rapidly in the future.
